How to Check Resource Usage in cPanel
At Cheap Host, we utilize CloudLinux to ensure a stable and balanced server environment. CloudLinux achieves this stability by restricting resource usage for each user, effectively ‘caging’ them to prevent any single account from consuming excessive resources.
Monitoring your resource usage is straightforward through cPanel. If you notice high resource consumption on your website, it may indicate a configuration issue that needs to be addressed or a need to upgrade your hosting package for additional resources.
Steps to Check Resource Usage
1. Log in to cPanel: Access your cPanel account via the Client Area or using your cPanel login credentials.
2. Navigate to Resource Usage: Go to "Metrics" and select "Resource Usage."
3. Understand the Resource Usage Dashboard: You will see a summary of your site’s resource usage:
- No Issues in the Past 24 Hours: Your site has remained within the limits of your hosting package over the last 24 hours.
- Limited Within the Past 24 Hours: Indicates that one or more resources have been maxed out, causing a limitation.
- Might Hit Resource Limits Soon: Suggests that you are nearing the maximum limit on one or more metrics.
4. View Detailed Metrics: To get more insight into resource usage, click either "Details" or "Current Usage" (both options lead to the same detailed view).
In this section, you will see various metrics:
- CPU Usage
- Physical Memory
- Input/Output Usage
- I/O Operations
- Entry Processes
- Faults
You can use the "Timeframe" and "Time Unit" drop-down menus to analyze resource usage over specific periods.
5. Examine Process Details: For a more granular view, check the "Snapshots" tab. This provides information on individual processes:
- PID: Process ID
- CMD: Command executed
- CPU: CPU usage by the process
- MEM: Memory usage by the process
This information helps identify scripts or processes consuming excessive resources, allowing you to address configuration issues or consider upgrading your hosting plan.
6. Additional Information: Explore the "Database Queries" and "HTTP Queries" tabs for further insights into database and HTTP resource usage.
By monitoring these metrics, you can better understand your website’s resource consumption and make informed decisions about necessary adjustments or upgrades.
