How to Perform a Full Backup Using the cPanel Backup Tool

Regular backups are crucial for maintaining the integrity of your website and email hosting services. At Cheap Host, we offer two backup solutions: the built-in cPanel backup tool and remote backups via Jet Backup. This guide will focus on using the default cPanel Backup tool to create a full backup of your account.

Steps to Download a Full Backup

1. Log in to cPanel: Access your cPanel account either through the Client Area or using the login credentials provided in your New Account Information email.

2. Navigate to Backup Tool: Once logged in, go to the "Files" section and select "Backup."

3. Select Full Backup: Click on "Download a Full Account Backup." This option will create a backup of all your files, databases, and emails.

4. Choose Backup Destination: You will have four options for where to save your backup:
- Home Directory: Save the backup locally in your cPanel home directory.
- Remote FTP Server: Save the backup to a remote FTP server.
- Remote FTP Server (Passive Mode Transfer): Save the backup to a remote FTP server using passive mode.
- Secure Copy (SCP): Save the backup using a secure copy protocol.

If you select any option other than "Home Directory," you will need to provide additional details such as Remote Server, Remote User, Remote Password, Port, and Remote Directory.

5. Notify by Email: If you choose "Home Directory," enter your email address to receive a notification once the backup process is complete.

6. Download Backup: After receiving the notification email, refresh the backup page in cPanel. You will find a link to download the backup file to your local machine.

Using the Backup Wizard

The Backup Wizard provides a similar process for downloading a full backup:

1. Log in to cPanel: As described above.

2. Open Backup Wizard: Navigate to "Files" and select "Backup Wizard."

3. Select Backup Destination: Use the dropdown menu to choose your backup destination, just as you would in the Backup tool.

4. Enter Email Address: Provide an email address to receive a notification when the backup is completed.

5. Generate Backup: Click "Generate Backup" to start the process.

Restoring a Full Account Backup

Restoring a full backup requires root-level privileges, so you'll need to contact Cheap Host’s support team. To request a restoration:

1. Open a Support Ticket: Submit a ticket to our support team.
2. Provide Backup Filename: Include the filename of the backup you wish to restore.
3. Support Action: Our team will handle the restoration process for you.

Handling Disk Space Issues

If you're using a lower-tier hosting package and lack sufficient disk space to perform a full backup, contact our support team. We can temporarily increase your disk space to facilitate the backup.

Troubleshooting Remote Backup Errors

If you encounter an error like "Couldn’t Write to Remote File: Failure" when attempting a remote backup, it may be due to disk space limitations or permission issues. Please contact support for assistance.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your website and email data are safely backed up and accessible when needed.
