Create an Email Account and Configure in cPanel

Setting up an email account can be quite a daunting prospect if you haven't got much experience with cPanel, but is actually very straightforward, and can be done in a couple of minutes!

Here we give a step by step guide to creating an email account and then configuring in your email client:

Create an Email Account

Login in to your cPanel account (you can find your login details from your new account email).

The main login will be via

https://server.webhostnameservers.com:2083 (for London server)

Once logged in go to Email --> Email Accounts (as per screenshot below)

From here select ‘CREATE+’

Type in a username of your choice and the a password. We recommend using the ‘GENERATE’ button here to ensure that you have a strong password.

That’s it all done!

Using Webmail

If you don’t want to install a 3^rd party mail software client such as Thunderbird or Outlook, then you can login to the server directly to send and receive emails.

To do this your webmail login will be

https://server.webhostnameservers.com:2096 (for London server)

You can also login via cPanel with the following steps:

Email ---> Email Accounts

Choose the email account you want to access ---> ‘CHECK EMAIL’

Once logged in using the login credentials you have created above you can choose from Roundcube or Horde. It is worth noting that Horde is a responsive design, and therefore is preferable when accessing your email from a mobile device.

Configuring a 3^rd Party Email Account

If you would like to set up your email with a 3^rd party email client such as Thunderbird, Outlook or Apple Mail for example please use the following settings:

Non-SSL Setup (these settings are less secure and therefore not recommended)

Username: username@domain.com

Password: Your Email Password

Incoming mail server: server.webhostnameservers.com (London)

Incoming Mail Port: IMAP - 143 / POP3 - 110

Outgoing Mail Server: server.webhostnameservers.com (London)

Outgoing Mail Port SMTP - 587

SSL Set-up (Recommended secure set-up)

Username: username@domain.com

Password: Your Email Password

Incoming mail server: server.webhostnameservers.com (London)

Incoming Mail Port: IMAP - 993 / POP3 -995

Outgoing Mail Server: server.webhostnameservers.com (London)

Outgoing Mail Port SMTP - 465

The Differences Between POP3 and IMAP

• IMAP is better for those that access emails on multiple devices - changes that are made on one device are automatically updated on others
• With IMAP you can delete emails directly from the server.
• With POP3 once you download the messages they will be stored locally, which can be beneficial in the even of a server crash etc.
• With POP3 you cannot delete emails directly from the server using your mail client
