SFTP Settings with Cheap Host

Secure File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) allows you to securely upload, download, and manage files on your hosting account. Unlike standard FTP, SFTP encrypts your connection to keep your data safe.

Below are the correct connection settings depending on your control panel.

cPanel SFTP Settings

If your hosting account uses cPanel, you can connect via SFTP using the following details:

  • Protocol: SFTP
  • Hostname: Your domain name or server hostname
  • Username: Your cPanel account username
  • Password: Your cPanel account password
  • Port: 22 or 2302

Both ports are supported. If port 22 is blocked by your network, use port 2302 as an alternative.

DirectAdmin SFTP Settings

If your hosting account uses DirectAdmin, use the following settings:

  • Protocol: SFTP
  • Hostname: Your domain name or server hostname
  • Username: Your DirectAdmin account username
  • Password: Your DirectAdmin account password
  • Port: 2223

Notes & Troubleshooting

  • Ensure you are selecting SFTP and not FTP in your client (such as FileZilla or WinSCP).
  • If you experience connection issues, check that your firewall or network allows the required port.
  • Using the correct port is essential—connections will fail if the wrong one is used.

If you need help connecting, please contact our support team and provide your IP address so we can investigate or whitelist access if required.
