Clearing Your Browser Cache
When making changes to your website, your browser may still display an older (cached) version. Clearing your cache or forcing a refresh ensures you are seeing the most up-to-date version.
Use Private / Incognito Browsing
Private (or Incognito) mode does not use your existing browser cache.
This makes it a quick way to check recent website changes without clearing anything manually.
How to use:
- Open a new Incognito / Private window in your browser
- Visit your website as normal
Perform a Hard Refresh
A hard refresh forces your browser to reload all files (images, CSS, scripts) directly from the server instead of using cached versions.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Google Chrome / Firefox / Microsoft Edge
- Windows/Linux:
Ctrl + F5orCtrl + Shift + R - Mac:
Command + Shift + R
Safari (Mac)
Command + Option + R
Alternative Method (All Browsers)
You can also clear cache for a single page using Developer Tools:
- Open Developer Tools (
F12orCtrl + Shift + I) - Right-click the refresh button
- Select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”
Why Browsers Use Cache
Browsers store cached content to improve performance and speed up your browsing experience.
Key benefits include:
- Faster loading times – Frequently used files load instantly
- Reduced bandwidth usage – Less data needs to be downloaded
- Improved performance – Fewer requests are sent to the server
- Offline access – Previously loaded pages may still be available
- Better user experience – Pages feel quicker and more responsive
Summary
If you’re not seeing recent changes to your website:
- Try opening the site in a private/incognito window
