Clearing Your Browser Cache

When making changes to your website, your browser may still display an older (cached) version. Clearing your cache or forcing a refresh ensures you are seeing the most up-to-date version.

Use Private / Incognito Browsing

Private (or Incognito) mode does not use your existing browser cache.

This makes it a quick way to check recent website changes without clearing anything manually.

How to use:

  • Open a new Incognito / Private window in your browser
  • Visit your website as normal

Perform a Hard Refresh

A hard refresh forces your browser to reload all files (images, CSS, scripts) directly from the server instead of using cached versions.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Google Chrome / Firefox / Microsoft Edge

  • Windows/Linux: Ctrl + F5 or Ctrl + Shift + R
  • Mac: Command + Shift + R

Safari (Mac)

  • Command + Option + R

Alternative Method (All Browsers)

You can also clear cache for a single page using Developer Tools:

  1. Open Developer Tools (F12 or Ctrl + Shift + I)
  2. Right-click the refresh button
  3. Select “Empty Cache and Hard Reload”

Why Browsers Use Cache

Browsers store cached content to improve performance and speed up your browsing experience.

Key benefits include:

  • Faster loading times – Frequently used files load instantly
  • Reduced bandwidth usage – Less data needs to be downloaded
  • Improved performance – Fewer requests are sent to the server
  • Offline access – Previously loaded pages may still be available
  • Better user experience – Pages feel quicker and more responsive

Summary

If you’re not seeing recent changes to your website:

  1. Try opening the site in a private/incognito window
  2. Perform a hard refresh
  3. Clear your browser cache if needed
